Some New Stuff

here are some stuff that i have been working on for the upcoming solo show at beat rock in long beach. the show will be comprised of materials dating from 2007-present. i've been really exploring the potentiality of mixing dry and wet mediums. its interesting how the two reacts when another medium is applied such as aerosol paint, or just plain water. they leave such interesting marks on the surface and as an artist, you learn how to adapt and take advantage of the magic of the process. enjoy.

Work on Progress

as an artist, i think that the most important part of art making is the process, which in turn i believe determines the outcome of the work. and as an example, my process ussually starts by focusing on one form which i then cut, twist, strectch, add, subtract, obsessively exploring the form's potentials. the form then determines the content or the meaning of the work. here are some body body of work with different degrees of completion. the following are done using acrylic paint, le pen (this pen is the shit), water color, and pigment liner pen!

Sculptures

Here are some 3-dimensional works done in the past.
Working with life size objects is really fun. The first one is
made out of a defunct chair, chopped up, disassembled, and
reassembled. It is called "1521". The second one is made out of
different found objects that i assembled. The title of the piece
is "Memory". The third piece is called "Garganta Walker".
This piece is made out of wood, ply wood, nylon panty hose lol,
gorilla glue, acrylic paint, and it's taller than me.

My Aquarium

Do you have an aquarium? What kind of fish do you have?

Here are some of the rarest species found in the world.
Nothing is known about their actual habitat. But it is
rumored that they like to hang out in the tropics, and
bask in the sun while drinking a bottle of San Miguel.
A one of a kind lager delighted by the many.

fish, octo, Breath Out the City

as a response to the previous post, black ink or paint is
a superb, versatile, and practical tool in mark making.

the more i look at these old drawings and paintings, the
more i get inspired to constantly learn and practice how
to incorporate monochromatic palette and different colors
in order to create a mood or to simply imply the solidity of
an object in space.
below is an example!

Blackawhite!

Black and white. Basic black and white. Out of all colour(s),
plain black paint or ink is probably what i hated the most. I
think that mediating between black and white is so difficult
and meticulous, since you have to consider a factor that is so
basic and at the same time alien. It means that you have to think
about light and dark and how the intensity of light depending on
the setting affects what your trying to do, or the object that is
being drawn and painted.

Despite all the struggle and deliberate understanding of black
and white hues and tone, i manage to pick some pointers and
apply that to a full color work!

Above are some black and white stuff i found from old sketchbook
4-5 years ago! Bottom, one with color!
